Harmony Day

Harmony Day

On Thursday 18th March 2010 students and teachers at Al-Faisal College celebrated Harmony Day.

All students looked extremely excited and colorful in the clothes which represented their country of origin or a country they had studied about in class.

The day started off with students being given the opportunity to show off their fantastic costumes by taking part in a parade in the main playground. We all joined the parade with great spirit and enthusiasm. The sea of colours were combined to make the school look like a rainbow.  Surprisingly teachers also joined us in their cultural clothes. However, few of them dressed up in clothes based upon the country they were doing a project on in class. It was a very special part of the day as everyone was able to share and enjoy their differences.

Once the parade was over, all students travelled from class to class to have a look at each class and their wall display on a particular country they had researched for Harmony Day. We all took make-believe passports with us that we made earlier to each class which was stamped by the teacher (a.k.a customs officer). By the end of the day, I had visited Brazil, Pakistan, New Zealand, Egypt and Italy just to name a few. Going to different classes and getting our passports stamped was a very unique idea. We all just loved it.

After a quick stop over in each class and learning more about the culture about that particular country, we headed down to the primary hall that was transformed into ‘mini Australia’ as the walls were completely covered in posters submitted by students which had interesting facts about our great country of ours, Australia. There were loads and loads of information which students could not stop reading.

I believe that the day allowed us to reflect on the fact that many cultures can come together to make one nation……Australia
